Once
a quiet fishing village, Port Douglas has grown into a hugely popular
tourist destination. With a
population of about 5,000, Port Douglas more than doubles its size in the
tourist seasons and offers plenty to see and do, including tours to the
world heritage Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree
Rainforest.
Accommodation
and restaurant choices are many
and despite being a small seaside village, Port Douglas shopping
rivals major capital cities in its scope and selection.
Easily
accessible from Cairns (which boasts both a domestic and international
airport), the drive to Port Douglas is one of the most beautiful in
Australia.
